Looking not necessarily to work-from-home, but rather work on-your-own? Then working as an independent contractor might be a great place to start. There are many independent opportunites out there in areas such as sales and travel, but one in particular is at the top of my list and works great for me. You can choose to work part-time, sporadically to make extra income or even full-time. Working as an independent contractor you can accept as many jobs as you like or as little as you like. It's totally up to you as to how many jobs you complete, allowing you to work a full-time schedule or only work on occasion to bring in extra income.
